Contoh Soal Identifying Critical Arguments

Contoh Soal Identifying Critical ArgumentsIn my opinion, giving cell phone to high school students is a bad idea. It only gives negative impact toward students. They communicate less with their families because their cell phone always keeps them busy. They never have time for studying or even hobbies. Most of the students put their cell phone beside them day and night. That condition will give them health problem. Do you agree with my opinion?
If you have different point of view, you can give me your critical arguments. As you do in composing analytical exposition text. You still remember analytical exposition text, right? What is it?
Analytical exposition is an spoken or written argumentative text which contains the writers idea about surrounding phenomenon. The purpose of the text is to persuade the listeners or readers to agree with the writer's opinions. Therefore, in order to make the listeners or readers have follows the writers point of view, the writer needs to elaborate his point of view by stating critical arguments in his text.
To build critical argument in analytical exposition text, consider the following things:
  1. Support your argument with facts as supporting evidences.
Certainly, people will easily believe in us if our arguments are strengthened by evidences. We do not just talk nonsense. The readers or listeners will agree with us because they know that we can prove what we are saying in our writings.
  2. Make sure you supporting reasons seem valid and reliable.
To make our reasons seem valid, we can put quotations, facts, and statistical analyses from various sources. You just need to make sure that the sources are credible and relevant with your topic. Also, you should write your citation so that your text gets free of plagiarism.
  3. State your ideas as clear as possible.
You should get to the point. Putting so many words which are not relevant will only sweep the readers/listeners away. You can`t neither leave the important information nor add irrelevant flowery words to your text.
Now, where should you put your critical arguments in analytical exposition text?
Do you remember the generic structure of the text?
Analytical exposition has three parts, they are:
  1. Thesis: it is where you introduce the topic and your view. You also will present the outline of your arguments in this part.
  2. Arguments: This is where you put your critical arguments. You can write the main idea of your arguments and develop them by giving some supporting evidence.
  3. Reiteration: this last section is where you restate your point of view.

As a big country, Indonesia has many problems to solve. One of them is clean water access.
Access to clean water indeed a very serious problem for all Indonesian people, no matter what social class they come from. Many Indonesian people are difficult access clean water which they need to drink, to bath, to clean, to cook, and other primary needs. To deal with this clean water problem, Indonesian government should be ready to spend high-cost for water infrastructure and improve and monitor the weak local utilities.
According to the National Mid-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), clean water infrastructure will need Rp 274.8 trillion while sanitation projects will take Rp 385.3 trillion. Indonesia needs to invest that high cost so that all Indonesian people can access clean water easily. If Indonesian government doesn’t want to invest a lot of money for clean water, do not let your hopes up that all Indonesian people can access clean water fairly and easily. Furthermore, we all know that Indonesia uses decentralization system so that the provincial government level is responsible for local water supply and sanitation. However, in reality I personally think that they cannot carry out this responsibility really well. We still can find many eastern provinces which are lack of clean water.
To conclude, in dealing with access to clean water problem, Indonesia needs to invest a lot of money on water infrastructure and supported fully by the responsible provincial government level.
