Here are the types of words that can be combined with a noun to form a noun phrase:
- Articles (a/an, the)
e.g. She has a brilliant mind. - Possessives (my, your, their, etc)
e.g. His discipline and determination are what make him successful in his life. - Demonstratives (this, that, these, those)
e.g. The exit door is that way. - Quantifiers (many, some, very, a few, number – one, two, etc)

Let’s take another look at the example given above:

The adjective in the phrases the humble man and the charismatic man give an emphasis as well as an explanation of what kind of man they are. It describes their personality. It is the function of adjective in a sentence or phrase: to describe personality or characters, and to describe physical appearance. Therefore, if you want to describe someone, you can use adjectives.

- Noun phrase will always have a ‘noun’ as its head.
- Adjective is the word that is used to describe a noun or pronoun.
- Adjective combined with a noun will form a noun phrase.
- In a noun phrase with adjective embedded in it, the adjective comes before the noun.
