Widely known by his initials “SBY,” Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was born on September 9, 1949, in Pacitan, East Java, Indonesia. He was born into an aristocratic family so he must be well-educated. He entered Indonesian military in 1973 and rose through the army ranks since then.
In 1999 SBY was appointed Mining and Energy Minister, and at the same time, he ended his military career though he could manage to be in military as well as politics. In 2002, he was nominated as a presidential candidate and won the election by more than 60 percent of the vote.
In the next presidential election in 2009, SBY once again took part as the incumbent candidate and won a second term in office. Because of term limits -since the Constitution of Indonesia limits presidents to two terms of office- SBY could not be able to run for a third term and left the president position, succeeded by Joko Widodo.
